Redwood Ripple / Flythrough · 2026 · Interactive 3D
A walkable WebGL flythrough of the Redwood Ripple treehouse by O2 Treehouse, set inside a LiDAR scan of the Lagunita redwoods. Switch between scan, structure and glow views, take the guided tour, fly freely, or line the model up against site photos.
Redwood Ripple / Adapt · 2026 · Parametric
Adapt shows the hull as a parametric system, not a fixed model. Every facade member is generated from one design surface (form.stp).
Redwood Ripple / Build Sequence · 2026 · Build Sim
The treehouse assembles piece by piece inside the scanned grove, stage by stage. Layer sliders fade the build, trees, LiDAR and treehouse independently, and the playback can be recorded straight to video.
Software / TopMod 3D v3.1 · 2026 · Web App
An HTML5 rebuild of TopMod, the topological mesh modeler created by Ergun Akleman at Texas A&M, developed for Texas A&M. Start from a primitive, then remesh, extrude, stellate, weave and subdivide on a DLFL mesh kernel that keeps every result a valid 2-manifold.
Software / Tiger+ for Rhino · 2026 · Rhino Plugin
Tiger+ is my free plugin for Rhino 8 on Mac and Windows: 235 Tiger commands for modelling and fabrication, from exact closed-form fillets, multi-pipes, lattices and TPMS gyroids to unfolds with matched part IDs, laminated ply stacks with dowel registration, multi-part molds with registration keys, gears and 360° turntable GIFs. Every tool shows a live orange preview of exactly what will bake, and turns red with a reason when an input won't work.
Inside Out · CORE MEMORIES photo booth · Disneyland · 2026 · Fabrication
An Inside Out themed photo booth at Disneyland: the CORE MEMORIES facade, memory-orb cabinets with LED mounts and wheels, roof, skirt and trim wrapped around the photo booth machine. Modelled in Rhino for fabrication at The Specialists.
Autodesk Pier 9 · Generative design · 2015 · Generative Design
An Olympic recurve bow whose riser was designed by a computer. As Artist in Residence at Autodesk Pier 9 in San Francisco, shooting in Golden Gate Park, I asked whether code can be creative and how people can co-design with machines.
Burning Man 2019 · Wing Portal · 2019 · Installation
Wing Portal: a steel portal with 26 radiating feather spars, 19.7 m from wingtip to wingtip and 10.8 m tall, on a 546 x 426 in plywood stage in the Black Rock Desert. Rebuilt in 3D from the original engineering model and drawings, the piece assembles in order: steel foundation, plywood stage and stairs, the S005 legs, the portal frame, then the feathers, with EncapLED PR40 pixels placed along each one, aimed down at the playa and out to the audience.
Creative Direction / Client Request · Swan · 2026 · Digital Fabrication
A client brief that arrived as a single reference image: a glazed ceramic swan. The image is turned into a point cloud, the point cloud into a 10 ft swan mesh, and the mesh is then planned for the shop: 4 in foam slices, cut into mirrored halves on the centre seam, around a 3/4 in plywood armature.
Illuminated River · Thames, London · 2019–21 · Architectural Design
Illuminated River lights nine central London bridges along 3.2 miles of the Thames, the world's longest public art commission. Artist Leo Villareal's LED sequences move slowly across each bridge, drawn from the river and its light, with the architecture and heritage of every bridge kept in view.
The Shed · Sonic Sphere · 2023 · Architectural Design Consultant
Sonic Sphere at The Shed in New York: a 65 ft sphere hung inside the McCourt, with more than 100 JBL speakers moving sound above, below and around the audience, in step with the light. The listening platform sits in the lower half of the sphere, with floor plates, net lounges, bench seating, steps and guardrails, reached by stairs, landings and gangways from the McCourt floor.
Ghost Scanner KTX 1.0 · 2026 · Product Design
The Ghost Scanner kiosk, designed in Fusion for fabrication: ply and MDF structure, powder-coated and enamel skins, satin-steel trim, a lens array, screens and LEDs. The view explodes every part along the normal of its largest face, away from the structure, then switches to glow, pulls back and names each part with leaders, before putting it back together.

AMAXiMAL is an independent studio for computationally driven design solutions in product design, software and architecture, founded by John Briscella.
We build parametric models, geometry tools and interactive 3D, and carry them through to fabrication: from a scanned redwood grove to a finished treehouse, from a sketch to a machined enclosure.
